Thursday, April 7

Jenny had another drain yesterday. This time they took off 4.3 litres. The radiologist who inserted the tube, and the nurse who tended to her at the cancer clinic, both suggested that she have a catheter placed that would stay there. They called it a tenckoff catheter.

Of course, it is evidently not without its risks - infection mainly I gather - but the drains would be done at home. A public health nurse would come and do the drain weekly, so that she would not build up so much. Part of her wants to do it, but part does not. We see Dr. Mazgani tomorrow, so the decision will depend largely on her recommendation I suppose.

Jenny had previously asked Dr. McMurtrie about it and it sounded like it was not an option she would choose. She did say that she had had a patient in the Queen Charlotte Islands that had one, because they were not equipped to do the drains at the hospital there. That was the only reason this woman had it.

She was sure dragged out yesterday.  Last night she had lots of sleep and today she is feeling very well, and I could not get over the difference in the look of her this morning.

That's about it for now.
