Sunday, December 5

Hi Everyone,

I hope all is well with you and yours.

Over the past 10 or 12 days Jenny started gathering abdominal fluid. It was getting pretty uncomfortable by last Wednesday. She had an appointment with Dr. McMurtrie for Thursday the 2nd. Jenny figured she would need to be drained, and Dr. McMurtrie concurred with that assessment. Fortunately, she was able to get her in the next morning, Friday, at 8:30.

I took her in and we got there a bit early, and they took her right away. She said it did not take long at all this time to get it started. I picked her up in the afternoon - she was finished by around 2:15.

You go to the imaging department and they see where the fluid is, and where there would be a good pocket to drain from. Then a radiologist comes in, and pokes a needle/tube thing in which is hooked up to a bag. Once it starts to flow, they call the cancer clinic to send a pick-up person to come and get you and you are wheeled underground next door to the cancer clinic to spend the day draining. They took out 4.1 litres.

She is also starting some hyperbaric oxygen treatments. Cancer hates oxygen, and when it is done under pressure, the oxygen gets into the cells. While there, she is also going into the infrared sauna. That heats the inside of your body - they call it hyperthermia - and cancer does not like that either.

She of course adheres to the lessons taught in California at the Simonton Cancer Center. That's a given - she will always do that.

Friday was our pre-scheduled party for Carl's (37th) birthday, We have been dong this here for probably about 12 years or so, and he and Shannon are in charge of the guest list. It is the same people each year, with a couple of additions in recent years. Of course, the other additions are the children. This year there were 12 adults and 6 children, 3 of whom were born this year. The oldest is 5. So Jenny drained all day then hosted a party in the evening. Nothing like multi-tasking!

Thanks for dropping by.
