July 9, 2014

Yesterday was the third anniversary of Jenny's passing.  As I have in the past, I went to Esquimalt Lagoon, where I put a portion of her ashes into the water on July 8, 2012.

It was the most gorgeous day imaginable. It was warm - a perfect temperature - the Olympic Mountains were spectacular, the water was calm, and there wasn't a cloud in the sky.

I took my CD player, and the two songs that I always play there - 'I Still Call Australia Home', and 'Hallelujah' by KD Lang. I placed the Australian flag and the Canadian flag into the sand, to acknowledge her dual citizenship. It was only in 2009 that she regained her Australian citizenship.

Before I left home, I gathered one flower from each of the (flowering) perennials that Jenny had planted in the garden. There were 14 of them. As I was gathering them, a butterfly flew all around me, then landed on a pine cone, about a foot away from my feet. I moved the pail of flowers close to it, and it did not move. Hmmm.

As the music played, I threw the flowers into the flowing stream under the bridge, and they were carried out to sea. During this process, the clams were squirting me, and I must say that I got quite wet. If I moved, the squirting moved with me, though I did not see that they were doing it anywhere but where I was standing.

I spent about an hour there, eyes wet nearly the whole time, listening over and over to the two special songs, while the flowers slowly made their way out of the eddy, and into the fast moving current.

As I have in the past, I felt a great sense of satisfaction as honoured her life, and her passing.
