In 2012 I put the remainder of her ashes in the water at Esquimalt Lagoon, which runs into the Juan de Fuca Strait. Each year, I go to the exact spot, and throw flowers into the water. The moving outgoing stream carries the flowers, all of which are perennials that were planted in the garden by Jenny, out to sea.
Another part of the ritual is to play two songs, KD Lang singing Hallelujah, and I Still Call Australia Home.
This year I took my grandchildren, Sophie (7) and Max (5), following discussions about their 'Nana J', and how it is important to honour our loved ones who have gone before us. Jenny would love to know that they were there and participating.
