Play bridge of course!
Today was chemo treatment #4.
The day started off as usual - get up, eat breakfast, pack a lunch, and off to the cancer clinic.
Jenny's appointment was for 10 AM so we would leave at about 9:15.
At 8:45 the phone rang and it was a pharmacist from the cancer clinic. They are the ones who prepare the concoction. She explained that one of her blood tests was not done yesterday. It is an indication of kidney function (which can be affected by the chemo). Without the test results, the chemo drugs cannot be made up, in case they need to make adjustments if the results are wonky.
She told Jenny to go to the hospital lab (next door to the cancer clinic), have her blood drawn, then give them at least an hour. We were out of this house pretty fast!
Since we had some time to kill, we called our friends and bridge partners Marg and Sandy (at whose home we held our wedding), and they live very close to the clinic and hospital. On our way there we decided that a bridge game would be even MORE fun than chemo!
So - here we are, playing our pre-chemo bridge game! You can click to enlarge.
Sharon, Sandy, Marg, Jenny
This morning marked the first game of our new bridge tournament. By the way, Jenny and Sandy are the winners of our last tournament which was completed last week.
For those of you who don't know about our tournaments, the teams are Sandy/Jenny, and Marg/Sharon. We play until one team reaches 20,000 points, which takes most of a year. The losers have to provide a surprise for the winners. Some surprises in the past have included a Bette Midler concert in Everett, Washington, a trip to Las Vegas then a cruise home from LA, and a trip to Reno. So you see - the gloves are off!!
And yes - we have definitely concluded that playing bridge is more fun than having a chemo treatment!
The treatment itself was uneventful. In all likelihood, she will be pretty energetic for a couple of days, then crash for a few. I will post updates.
Here we are playing rummy during chemo. Seems this was a good day for cards!
