Today Jenny saw Dr. McKinney, the naturopath specializing in oncology, the same one she has been with since the beginning. Yesterday I faxed him the papers she was given at the clinic on Monday, describing the protocols for her treatment.
When we went in he said, "so you're going to be on CAELYX (an abbreviation). I'm really jazzed about that". He went on to explain that it is a really effective, good treatment.
She will stay on the mistletoe injections throughout and beyond. He said the chemo will knock out the big stuff and the mistletoe will be there "mopping up cells left behind". He thought this could be successful for quite a long time. We are hoping!
Mistletoe is what she started on in October after we found out her CA125 was so high. It has been an established treatment in Europe for many decades. Evidently in Germany, when people get cancer, they give them mistletoe, and many oncologists use it to accompany the chemo.
After this visit, we were feeling quite optimistic. We are lucky that Neil is here in Victoria. If you are wondering about this sort of thing, you can see his website at www.drneilmckinney.ca .
