Friday was Jenny's birthday. Marg and Sandy and Pam came over later in the afternoon, and Linda Schmidt arrived from Denman Island.
Carl, Shannon and the kids came in for a bit as well, on their way to a dinner party.
We ordered in Chinese food, and had a great time as Pam and Marg regaled us with stories of going back east in the early 80s, to visit Pam's relatives and meet some she had never known. They were scattered from Newfoundland to Ontario to Boston, so there were two trips to report about. There were sure some funny stories and it was so wonderful to have some really good laughs.
Jenny ate in the bedroom - just a little bit of the Chinese food. She did not want to smell the whole lot, but was able to eat a bit of it. After we had cleaned up the food and dishes she came to the table to have ice cream cake, which was her special request. The wheelchair is such a blessing. It has freed her up now so that she can move around the house better, without using all her energy.

Since she was able to go out in the convertible last week, I asked her if she would like to go for a drive this morning. She did so I loaded her into the wheelchair and took her out the driveway to the van. I put a little stool next to the van so she could easily step in, and away we went.
We went down to Metchosin, stopping in to see Ken and Nana McCulloch on the way. We stayed in the car and they visited us there for a few minutes. Then we went to Weir's Beach and William Head .We looked at the view of the Olympics through the rolls of barbed wire fencing! For non locals, William Head is a federal penitentiary, and is the absolute country club of prisons in Canada. Unlike Alcatraz, which is also surrounded by water, this is a pretty classy joint, and sought after by inmates of all description. Only the very well behaved get to stay live there.
When we got home our friend Mary Lois was just coming out the driveway. She had left something from Donna and Lynn, our friends who moved back to Penticton in BC's Okanagan Valley. Every Canada Day they give us something Canadian. This time it was two Canadian flags that you wear as capes, with sleeves for your arms. Jenny and I have held 19 Canada Day parties in a row. This would have been our 20th - sorry, no party this year!
That's about it for now. Thanks to all those who came to stay with Jenny for a few hours last week to let me out for a bit.
