Friday, May 27

This picture was taken yesterday, May 26. Funny how those little kids always seem to make it into the photos!

Today we arrived at the hospital at 11 AM, and checked in at the front desk. We were told that Jenny's procedure had been cancelled! Cancelled? Really? We were in a state of shock.  The clerk said it had something to do with a radiologist or something, and perhaps we could enquire at medical imaging.

So off we go to medical imaging, Jenny in a wheelchair since walking through hospitals can be a long trek. The person at medical imaging said that yep, it had been cancelled. She said she was waiting for some paperwork on her. I asked her from whom was she awaiting this paperwork. She didn't know. She didn't know?

I asked what was to happen next. She didn't know. In fact, she knew nothing. She kept shrugging and trying to get rid of me, and of course I was not budging away. I told her what the exact situation was, and that something had to be done. So then she sent us to the watiting room while she made some enquiries.

Next thing, a very nice and helpful woman named Brenda came along and explained that there had been some emergencies and they were understaffed to handle it all, particularly in view of the fact that the room where this is done, is now closed two days a week. Aha - that is the real problem.

I told her that Jenny cannot wait until later next week to have this done and one only needed to look at Jenny sitting inthe wheelchair, talking with her eyes closed, to know that something needs to be done to help her. She went away and came back and told us that she is making this happen on Monday, and that she guarantees it.

So - we are to be there at 8:30 AM on Monday, and the procedure will be done at 10:30. I asked about the general anaesthetic, and she said no, it is an IV sedative, which is a long way off a general. That was the part we had worried about, so we were relieved to learn that. She will go to a room on the 4th floor (I suspect it is the same one she went to for her blood transfusions last year), she will have the IV put in etc, then taken down to wherever to have the procedure, then back up to the 4th floor to drain for the next 4 or 5 hours.

Jenny was absolutely exhausted after this, and went to bed for the next 5 or 6 hours. She slept, watched TV and had a good rest.

I have been bragging about how good the system is, in that in almost 3 years of extensive medical attention, not even one little thing had gone wrong! And it's true. Every time something is supposed to happen, it happens on time and how it is supposed to. So I guess one glitch in nearly 3 years is not too bad!

So that's how our day went. It is off to the ferry to pick up Rob in the morning. Bye for now. I will be back in a couple of days.
