Jenny was relieved of 4.6 litres of fluid today. It was sure playing havoc with her for a good part of the past week. It is out now, and she is pretty exhausted. She loses so much sleep when it builds up. Hopefully she will get more rest tonight.
The nurse was talking to her about the permanent drain today and I asked a lot of questions when I went to pick her up. Jenny is feeling ready for it now. When we discussed it with Dr. Mazgani in early April, she said Jenny was still too active to have it. That has changed now, as she does not have any energy to be active, and it would be such a relief to be able to have it drained more often.
We did discuss it when we saw her on the 5th of May and she indicated it may be time now.
What that means, is that they would insert the catheter and tape the spigot (my terminology!) to her body, and a community nurse would come in every week or few days or whenever it needs to be drained, before such large amounts accumulate and cause her grief.
Anne Marie left today and Shannon went back to Vancouver yesterday.
